NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins pull out the 7-0 sweep against Linfield after battling through several close matches.
How it Happened
The Bruins secured the doubles point after two of the three matches went into extra sets.
Lars Schmassmann and
Ikuho Ebisu led things off for the Bruins, defeating Linfield's Brooks Lerfald and Cameron Paulsen 6-1. After that, the matches got interesting.Â
Keita Shoji and
Zach Moore secured the doubles point after a well-fought 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot against Rogue Stone and Abhi Acharya.
Luis Hernandez and
Jackson Whittaker pushed their match to extras as well, but eventually got beaten 7-5 by Linfield's No. 3 doubles duo.Â
In the singles matches, the Bruins played well to secure the sweep. Schmassmann lost his first set 2-6, bouncing back in the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 to defeat Lerfald. Moore made easy work of Alexander Rosenquist, taking him down 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles spot.Â
Ebisu played a very similar match to Schmassmann, losing the first set 2-6 before bouncing back 6-2, 6-3 to secure the fourth point necessary to win for the Bruins. The final three matches were completed in two sets, with Shoji winning his match 6-2, 6-3, Whittaker winning 6-0, 6-2, and Hernandez winning a close one 7-5, 6-4.Â

The Bruins hop right back into action tomorrow morning Feb. 15th, as they face Portland State at 10:00 am.Â
