Box Score BEAVERTON, Ore. -- The Bruins men's tennis team concluded their weekend action with a match against Division I Portland State, eventually falling 5-2 to the Vikings.
How it Happened
The Bruins put up the best fight against the Vikings out of all of the Northwest Conference teams they've played, giving Fox momentum heading into their next couple of matches.
It all started with doubles matches, where Fox picked up their first point of the day.
Lars Schmassmann and
Ikuho Ebisu picked up a doubles win in dominant fashion, defeating the Viking duo of Luca Prino and Hubert Theriault 6-1.
Jackson Whittaker and
Zach Moore followed up with a fantastic 6-4 victory in the No. 2 doubles spot, securing the doubles point for the Bruins.
Luis Hernandez and
Joseph Vece were the lone loss in doubles play, getting taken down 6-0.
In singles matches, Whittaker was the lone Bruin to win a match, defeating Andrin Zuellig 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. This back-and-forth battle was the best match of the day, as PSU won the other singles matches in straight sets.
The other singles matches went as follows: Schmassmann lost his match 6-4, 6-4, Moore lost 6-4, 6-2, Ebisu lost 6-2, 6-2, Hernandez got beat 6-1, 6-1, and Vece got taken down 6-1, 6-0 in his Bruin debut.
Overall the Bruins performed well against PSU, contesting several matches and showing why they're one of the best teams in the Northwest Conference.

The Bruins are done for the weekend and will face Puget Sound in their home opener next Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 11:00 am.
