PHOENIX -- The George Fox baseball team wrapped up their weekend in Arizona with another win against the North Central Cardinals on Sunday, jumping out to an early lead in the with a 6-3 win.
How It Happened
Though the first two innings were rather eventful for both teams, the third inning brought on more action. In the top of the third, the Bruins started a four-run streak when
Austin Stalwick doubled to left field, allowing for
Carson Coulter to advance to third base and
Evan Balingit to score the Bruins first run. Everything looked up from there, with
Garrett Strube singling to left field to score both Stalwick and Coulter.
Andre Butler then scored the next run after
Danner Hamburg hit a sacrifice fly, giving the Bruins a 4-0 lead.
North Central retaliated with one run in the bottom of the third and loaded the bases with two outs, but Fox prevented further damage; starting pitcher
Michael Singleton ensured that the Cardinals wouldn't creep back into the game with a strikeout to end the inning.
The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning. Butler walked to first, allowing for each player to advance and giving
Mason Eastman the opportunity to score a run for Fox. Strube then hit a flyball out to center-field giving Coulter the chance to score George Fox's final run of the game. The Bruins completed the top of the fourth inning with two runs, one hit, zero errors, and two players left on the bases. The score at the end of the fourth inning was 6-1.
Once again, the Cardinals responded by loading the bases with two outs — but again, the GFU pitching was ready. Singleton again stayed collected, striking out Caleb Coberly to keep the Bruins in front by five. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that the Cardinals added two more runs to the board, and Fox quickly slammed the door shut.
Ryder Edwards entered the game in the ninth inning, picking up the save to end the game, 6-3.

Coach's Thoughts
"Today was a great example of being able to minimize damage each inning," Bruin head coach
Kevin Kopple said, "We can give up one at a time but can't give up big numbers. Big pitches when we needed it today and some great swings. Excited to get conference play started next week in McMinnville."
What It Means
The Bruins now have a record of 3-4 and their first winning streak of the season, while the Cardinals now have a record of 1-2.
What Comes Next
The Bruin baseball team will be returning home to begin conference play starting with a doubleheader in McMinnville, Ore. against Linfield on Saturday, March 1. The first game is set to start at noon.
