Multiple Three Set Victories Give Bruins the Edge Over Pios

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Bruins win big matches to pull out a 5-2 victory over Lewis and Clark, extending their win streak to 4 as they remain undefeated in conference play.

How it Happened
The Bruins lost their first doubles point of the season, going 1-2 in the doubles matches as they found themselves down 1-0 early. Kalli Wiker and Riley Bobkiewicz met their match early, dropping their first doubles match all season as the No. 1 doubles team 6-2. Sophie and Shanah Denham were paired together for the second time this season, picking up a 6-3 win to stay undefeated as a duo this year. Arianna Rader and Juhree Kizziar finished things off for the Bruins, battling hard but eventually dropping their match 6-4 as the Pios secured their first point of the day.

In singles play, three matches needed a third set to decide the victor. Riley Bobkiewicz earned the No. 1 singles spot today, matching up against LC's Susanna Anand. Bobkiewicz played well, but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-3 to give the Pios an early 2-0 lead. Kalli Wiker picked up the first win for the Bruins, winning a tight first set 7-5 before dominating set two 6-1.

Shanah and Sophie Denham played similar singles matches to each other, both winning in three sets. Shanah played in the No. 3 singles spot and won her match 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, while Sophie won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 as the No. 4 singles player. Both matches were back and forth, with the Bruins reigning victorious to earn their second and third points of the day.

The final two singles matches were also well-played, with each match going back and forth all afternoon. Abigail Bond went wire to wire in the No. 5 singles spot today, winning both on nail-biters 7-5, 7(7) - 6(2). This point pushed the Bruins over the edge and secured the victory to keep them undefeated on the year. Cassey Hitch rounded things out for the Bruins, losing her first set 7-5 before bouncing back 7-5, 10-6 to secure the final point of the day for the Bruins.

Coach's Thoughts
"The girls did a great job of fighting back in the singles after a tough outing in the doubles," said Bruins head coach Rick Cruz. "The most encouraging part of the win was pulling out all of the three-setters. I believe this is the type of match that will make us stronger as we head into next weekend and the rest of the season."

What Happens Next
The Bruins will return from their road trip to play Whitman at home next Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 AM.
