NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's basketball team towered over the Pacific Boxers with a 77-64 win in Tuesday's game.
How It HappenedÂ
The Bruins started things on a high note against the Boxers with
Hanne Hopkins rebounding a missed three point shot from senior
Alyssa Wells, Hopkins took the opportunity and took the shot giving them a 2-0 lead over Pacific.
Tara Ushiro had a jump shot adding two more points to the board. Pacific retaliated, scoring two points, but their retaliation ended quickly with Wells scoring two back-to-back three pointers – giving the Bruins an eight-point advantage. By the end of the quarter George Fox was up 21-12 over Pacific thanks to an otherworldly 13 points from Wells.Â
At the start of the second quarter,
Sophia Hardy had a layup in the paint, adding to Fox's 11-point lead. George Fox went on a 12-7 run against Pacific from the fifth minute to the end of the quarter. Wrapping up the half the Bruins were up, 40-25.Â
In the beginning of the second half Pacific came out to play, scoring first until
Mia Skoro ended their scoring streak with two free throws. The Boxers started to become more physical, giving the Bruins more free throws; which in return led to more points for Fox; the Bruins shot 11-12 from the line in the third. Ushiro finished the quarter up with two more free throws, giving the Bruins a 55-42 lead.Â
The final quarter was the opportunity for the Bruins to put the final nail in the coffin for Pacific. Hardy started things off with a layup in the paint, giving Fox a 15-point lead. The Boxers persisted in their attack, causing more fouls and leading to more points for George Fox. Skoro had a three-pointer at the shot clock buzzer with eight minutes to go and an additional two free throw points with six minutes remaining. Fox cruised to the victory, earning their second straight with a 77-64 win.

Alyssa Wells had 16 points in just 18 minutes, shooting 4-6 from deep..
Mia Skoro scored 13 points, while
Hanne Hopkins had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Sophia Hardy had her season-high on the day, shooting 4-6 from the field and scoring eight points.Â

"Tonight was a great team win with everyone contributing in a big way," Bruin head coach
Lauren Howard said, "Our bench energy was on another level tonight which helped a ton."

George Fox now has an overall record of 15-5 and an NWC record of 7-4. The Pacific Boxers now have an overall record of 8-12 and an NWC record of 4-7.Â
