THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The George Fox softball team had a semi-successful double header against Cal Lutheran on Sunday. The first game ended in a loss, with a score of 1-2. The second game ended with a win with a score of 6-4.
How It Happened
First Game
The first game was a simple warm up for the Bruins. They used the first game to get their footing for the second. Both teams scored between the third and fourth innings. The top of the third began when
Tinley Taylor hit the ball out to centerfield, shortly after Sharon Tomeri had a double, sending the ball to right-center.
Bethany Wilkes then had an RBI and sent Tomei to home plate, giving the Bruins the upper hand 1-0.
Cal Lutheran didn't strike until the bottom of the fourth with DeSmet stealing first base after striking out. She then proceeded to steal second base. Vargas had an RBI single up the middle, setting DeSmet up to score. Booth then doubled through the left side and Vargas was able to score. Cal Lutheran upped the score 2-1 and the Bruins fell in the first game.
Second Game
After the first game, the Bruins had a fire lit under them and they took action into their own hands. Cal Lutheran took control first, scoring all four of their runs in the first three innings, putting Fox down 4-0.
In the top of the fourth
Nicole Campa doubled to right center allowing for Wilkes to score off of her RBI.
Kiley Harris had a hit to left field, allowing for her to make it to second base. Harris then stole third and
Brooke Riggins had an RBI allowing for Harris to score. Later, Sandifer was hit by a pitch and Palmer was put in as a pinch runner. Tomei then had an RBI and Riggins scored; giving the Bruis two runs for the inning.
It wasn't until the top of the seventh that Fox scored their last two runs of the game.
Makayla Noone had a triple hit to centerfield and Taylor had a single up the middle giving Noone the run. Tomei then entered the game and had a two-RBI hit giving Taylor the chance to score. The Bruins then took the lead over Cal Lutheran, having a score of 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Sharon Tomei had three at-bats, a run, and two hits.
Bethany Wilkes had a hit and an RBI.
Charlotte Brooke had a hit.
Second Game
Tinley Taylor had four at-bats, a run, three hits, and an RBI.
Sharon Tomei had three RBIs, a hit, and a run.
Nicole Campa had an RBI and a hit.
Brooke Riggins had an RBI, a hit, and a run.
Coach's Thoughts
"Overall we had a good weekend," said Bruins head coach
Nathan Ohta. "Our pitching was solid, we played very good defense, and had some big swings. The team showed a lot of resilience coming from behind to get a couple of these games, which was good to see at this point in the season."

The George Fox softball team now has an overall record of 3-1 and the Cal Lutheran softball team has a record of 3-1.
What Comes Next
The Bruin softball team travels all the way to Virginia for their next game against East Texas Baptist in the Cross Bay Bash tournament. Their first game is set to begin at 8:00 am on Thursday March 13th.
