The Bruins started their day strong in doubles play, taking down the Pirates 2-1 to secure the first point of the day. All three matches were competitive, with sisters
Shanah Denham and
Sophie Denham teaming up to secure the first match of the day 6-3.
Kalli Wiker and
Riley Bobkiewicz finished next, dropping their match 6-4 to set up a tie-breaking third doubles match. Fireworks ensued after it went to a tie-breaker, with Casey Hitch and
Arianna Rader winning 7-5. The duo was down 5-4 late in the match, but won three crucial games in a row to secure the victory.Â
Bobkiewicz got the nod in the No. 1 singles match today. She played well, but ultimately lost 6-1, 6-1 to even the score 1-1.
Shanah Denham got things back on track for the Bruins, securing a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles spot to give the Bruins back the lead. Rader and
Sophie Denham secured the victory after they both won their matches as well. Rader gon 6-4, 6-1, and Denham won her first set 6-1 before closing the match out with a 7-5 victory in the second set.Â
The last two matches of the day both took all three sets necessary to win. Wiker went wire-to-wire in the No. 2 singles spot, losing set one 7-6 before bouncing back 6-2 in the second. She secured the third set on a tiebreaker, winning 1(10) - 0(3) to complete the comeback. Hitch had poler opposite first and second sets. She lost 6-0 in the first set, but bounced back 6-1 in set two to force a third. Hitch capped it off with a 6-4 victory to give the Bruins the 6-1 win overall.Â

The Bruins travel to Willamette next Saturday, March 8th. The match begins at 11:00 am.Â
