REDLANDS, Calif. -- In a rematch from the DIII national tournament last year, Redlands got the upper hand on the Bruins once again. The match resulted in a 5-2 loss, but the Bruins still fought hard and produced a couple of competitive matches.
How It Happened
Fox started their evening off strong with a 2-1 victory in the doubles matches. Two of the three matches went to extra games as the Bruins had a strong showing.
Lars Schmassmann and
Ikuho Ebisu won their match in the top spot 7-5, and
Jackson Whittaker and
Luis Hernandez squeaked out the 7-6 victory to secure the point.
Zach Moore and
Keita Shoji rounded the matches out for the Bruins, dropping the No. 2 doubles 6-3.
In singles matches, the Bulldogs showed why they are a top-30 team in the nation, winning five of the six available points. Whittaker was the lone win for the Bruins, securing the dub in a tight one 2-6, 7-6, 1(10) - 0(7) The rest of the matches were handled by Redlands, winning their matches all in two sets. Schmassmann dropped his match 6-2, 6-4, Moore lost 6-4, 6-3, Ebisu lost 6-2, 6-2, Shoji dropped his match 6-1, 6-0, and Hernandez rounded things off with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat.
Despite the result, the Bruins still put up a fight against the Bulldogs. They held on and only got swept in one of their sets, and Moore played fantastic despite dropping his singles match. The team has a lot to build on as they head into their day off tomorrow, March 26th.
What Happens Next
Fox is slated to play No. 18 Cal Tech on Thursday, March 27th to finish off their California road trip. The first match starts at 2:00 PM.
