NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox baseball team finished up their three game series with a 6-16 defeat Sunday afternoon against the Whitman Blues.
How It Happened
A strong wind heavily affected the first few innings, with Whitman striking first with a home run in the top of the second.
Garrett Strube struck first for the Bruins with a single out to left field before
Brennan Bates gave Fox an early spark. A home run down the left field line gave him two RBIs and added two runs to the board, giving Fox a 2-1 lead after two.
Whitman tied things up 2-2 in the third inning with another left field home run before disaster struck in the top of the fifth; the Blues scored a total of seven runs in the top of the fifth — the Bruins hitting four batters as the score ballooned to 2-9. Whitman added two more runs in the top of the sixth, but the Bruins were able to add on one more run with a Strube sac fly to score
Carson Coulter. The score at the end of the sixth was 3-11.
Pitcher
Luke Vrable kept the Blues from scoring in the top of the seventh inning before
Noah Takayama hit a single to center field, bringing in
Danner Hamburg. By the end of the seventh, the score was 11-4. The eighth inning was the busiest for both teams, with Whitman scoring five runs to bring their total to 16.
Isaac Snyder hit an RBI single to score
Calvin Gully and
Jackson Bucholz, but it wasn't enough as Fox dropped the game, 6-16, in eight innings.
Top Performers
Brennan Bates had a home run and two RBIs, while
Isaac Snyder had two RBIs in his only at-bat. Noah Takamaya and
Garrett Strube each had an RBI.
What It Means
The Bruin baseball team now has an overall record of 10-13 (4-8 NWC). The Blues improve to 14-8 (6-3) thanks to the weekend sweep.

The George Fox baseball team will look to bounce back with a road series against the Puget Sound Loggers. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, April 5th at 12:00pm.
