Three Bruins Pick Up All-NWC Honors

Most by Women's Basketball Program Since 2019

3/6/2025 1:17:00 PM

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Northwest Conference office announced its All-NWC Women's Basketball Teams, with the three Fox athletes picking up an honor — the most in six seasons.

In a year that saw the biggest single-season turnaround in program history, Hanne Hopkins and Alyssa Wells were each named First Team All-NWC, while Alexa Borter picked up a second team honor.

Hopkins became the first GFU sophomore since Hannah Muger in 2011 to be named to the First Team thanks to a standout all-around season. In her first year in a Bruin uniform, the Western Oregon transfer averaged 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Hopkins scored in double-digits 13 times in the season and pulled in 10 rebounds four times for the year; for her efforts in a 2-0 week against Pacific and Pacific Lutheran, Hopkins was named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week.

"Hanne has worked hard and overcome so much adversity in her playing career," Bruin head coach Lauren Howard said, "I could not be happier for her receiving this honor. We are excited to see the waves she makes in conference for the next two years."

Wells, meanwhile, ended her collegiate career on a high note, finishing as the second Bruin named to the First Team. The senior sharpshooter hit a conference-leading 57 triples, the most by a Bruin since Jami Morris' 69 in 2014-15. In addition to her shooting prowess, Wells pulled down 5.3 rebounds, dished out 2.1 assists, and recorded 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, rounding out her career by scoring 10-plus points in her final six games.

"Alyssa has come a long way in the last two years," Howard said, "I am so proud of how she responded to everything we threw at her — she kept showing up and working hard every day. Receiving a first team honor is proof of what she means to this program, and I couldn't think of anyone more deserving of it."

Alexa Borter rounded out the Bruins to receive an award, picking up a second team honor in her senior season. Borter, who missed the entirety of her junior season with an injury, was a key contributor to the Bruins' turnaround, manning the middle for Howard's team. Borter averaged 9.2 points per game on 51.8% shooting, and brought in 7.3 rebounds per game — all career marks. The senior recorded three double-doubles on the year, and was on triple-double watch against Whitworth with a 12 point, 12 rebound, seven block performance.

"Being out all last season, Lex and I had conversations about not taking a second of playing for granted," Howard said, "She proved this all season long, giving everything she had each possession and game. Her ability to protect the rim and defend 1-5 is something that will be hard to replace."

The three Bruins on the All-NWC team were the most since 2018-19, when Emily Spencer (first), Tavin Headings (second), and Hailey Hartney (honorable mention) all picked up an honor. In addition, it's the first time Fox had put two women on the All-NWC First Team since Justine Benner and Sammy Naluai in 2016.

For the season, the Bruins improved from six wins in 2023-24 to 20 in 2024-25, the best single-season turnaround in program history. Fox earned the number two spot in the conference, nearly punching a ticket to the big dance in the NWC Championship game, narrowly losing to No. 5-ranked Whitman.

While Wells and Borter graduate from the program, Hopkins and the rest of the Bruins will be back in the fall of 2025, hungry and ready to take that next leap.
