NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins secured second place in the conference today, beating the Pacific Boxers 5-2 in their final match of the regular season.
How It Happened
The Bruins got off to a hot start, winning all three of their doubles matches to secure a point.
Lars Schmassmann and
Keita Shoji teammed up, securing a 6-3 win in the No. 1 singles match.
Zach Moore and
Jackson Whittaker also got an easy victory, winning 6-1 and giving the Bruins the point needed to win the doubles round.
Ikuho Ebisu and
Luis Hernandez rounded out the matches, winning in a thriller 7(7) - 6(1) to complete the sweep.
In the singles matches, the Bruins won four of the six matches to take down the Boxers. Schmassmann started things off with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Josh Dela Cruz, and Moore followed suit with the largest win of the afternoon 6-1, 6-1. Ebisu, coming off a slight back injury from yesterday, still managed to put up a fight in the No. 3 spot. He lost both sets 7-5, 7-5 and pushed each match to a tiebreak.
Shoji also played well today, winning his match 6-2, 6-2, and Whittaker rounded out the wins with a 4-6, 6-0, 1(10) - 0(3) thriller. He came back after losing the first set, using the momentum of a 6-2 second set to secure the fifth victory for the Bruins. Hernandez rounded out the lineup with a 7-5, 6-2 loss as the six, as the Bruins came away with a 5-2 match victory.
The Bruins won both of their matches this weekend and look to take revenge on Lewis and Clark in the Northwest Conference semi-final.

The Bruins travel to Whitman to face Lewis and Clark next Saturday, April 19th at 4:00 pm. They look to make it to the National Championship for their fifth straight season, with their eyes set on the ultimate prize.
