Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Bruins advance to the Northwest Conference Championship game after a dominant 4-0 victory over Lewis and Clark.
How It Happened
The Bruins got off to a hot start, winning the two necessary matches needed to secure the doubles point.
Luis Hernandez and
Ikuho Ebisu got the ball rolling as the No. 3 doubles pair, racking up a 6-2 win over Matthew Chio and Spencer Loucks. Fox is so nice they did it twice, as
Lars Schmassmann and
Keita Shoji took down Lewis and Clark's top duo 6-2 as well. The third match of the day was an intense one, but didn't finish up as the Bruins had already secured the necessary matches needed to secure the point.
Jackson Whittaker and
Zach Moore were down 5-4 when the other matches concluded.
Moore kicked off the doubles matches with a swift 6-3, 6-4 win over Noah Sutin. He lead early in both sets, taking control and giving the Bruins an early 2-0 lead. Whittaker followed up with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Arnav Bishnoi in the five spot, putting the Bruins just one match away from victory. Ebisu closed things out for the Bruins in dramatic fashion, coming back from down 5-3 to force a tiebreak point. He closed it out 6-0, 7(7) - 6(4) to give the Bruins the win as their NCAA tournament hopes are still alive.
All three other matches were headed for a decisive third set had Ebisu not come in clutch. Schmassmann finished 6-4, 4-6, 1-0, Shoji was down 6-1, 1-6, 3-1, and Hernandez was on the brink of heading to a third set as well, rounding out the matches with a score of 6-2, 4-5.
What Happens Next
The Bruins stay in Walla Walla, Wash. to face the Whitman Blues in the Northwest Conference Final tomorrow, April 20th, at 12:00 pm.
