NEWBERG, Ore. -- The lacrosse team had a clean sweep this weekend against the Pacific Boxers, scoring 25 goals total—and making history by scoring the most goals in a game in the program's history.
How It Happened
The first goal was scored by
Ava Bluhm within the first minute, as the Bruins were able to immediately get into the Boxers' heads. From that point on, Fox was on a roll when
Sasha Thayer scored a goal, and then assisted a solid goal by
Merrick Gibson thirty seconds later. Then,
Morgan Maxfield caught the ball, spinning around defense, and scoring, 4-0. A few minutes later, Maxfield lingered behind the net and passed it to
Claire Abraham, who caught it charging to the center and launching it into the goal.
Lana Davis scored two consecutive goals a little while later, the second on a free-position shot.
Audrey White and
Anna Newkirk both made clean goals with about five minutes remaining. Finally, the intense first quarter was finished after Davis shot right from the far middle, leaving the score at 10-0.
The second quarter wasn't so profound as the Bruins found comfortability. But that didn't stop them from dominating, as Maxfield went in for the kill with a goal. Abraham scored on a free-position shot later on, and freshman
Chloe Bayley scored a goal—the score was at 0-13.
The Bruins were feeling pretty unstoppable as Davis won the draw control at the start of the third period, and the first goal was scored by Bluhm on a free-position shot.
Stela Flores scored a nice goal when Abraham passed it to her, charging from the middle. The score was 0-18 when freshman
Hannah Hill scored a strong goal, closing the third quarter of the game.
Fox was climbing mountains as they only advanced—
Gabriella Muzquiz scored the first goal of the final quarter, and then another one a few minutes later, making the score 21-0. With five minutes remaining,
Cipriana Flores tore through the center and scored a powerful goal, tossing her stick and celebrating with her teammates. With four seconds remaining, she snuck in one last goal, boosting the score to an incredible, final 0-25.
