FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The Bruins dropped their final matchup of the season against Pacific, losing 2-5 in a close game.
How It Happened
The Bruins got off to a slow start in the match, dropping the doubles point 2-1.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham split the first few games of the set on court one, but lost the final three to Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takanashi to lose 6-3. On court two it was a similar story, with
Kalli Wiker and Ari Radar falling behind early in a 6-3 loss of their own. The lone doubles win for the Bruins was on court three, with
Cassey Hitch and
Sophie Denham flipping the script and winning, 6-3.
For singles play, Bobkiewicz fought hard against one of the premier players in the Northwest Conference in Binder, losing 6-0, 6-1. The two wins for the Bruins came on courts two and three, with
Kalli Wiker fighting past Takanashi to win 6-2, 7-5.
Shanah Denham also won in the nail-biting match against Sofia Mazzola; after falling down 0-5 in a first-set loss, Denham won the second, 6-3, before earning the win in the third, 1-0 (10-7).
Sophie Denham,
Juhree Kizziar, and Hitch each lost their matches on Courts No. 4-6, with several athletes coming close to a set win but ultimately losing. Denham fell, 1-6, 0-6, while Kizziar dropped her 4-6, 5-7. Hitch held an early lead in the second set, but lost her match on court six, 2-6, 3-6.
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 11-3 in conference, tying themselves with the Boxers for second place overall. Thanks to tiebreakers, Fox will be seeded third in the NWC Tournament while Pacific will be seeded second.
