Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Bruins' season comes to a close after dropping their match to Pacific 4-2 in the Northwest Conference Semi-Final.
How It Happened
The Bruins started off their day playing catch-up after the Boxers secured the doubles point.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham played the top doubles pair from Pacific, dropping their match 6-0.
Kalli Wiker and
Arianna Rader dropped their match as well, this time 6-2 as the No. 2 team. Even though
Sophie Denham and
Cassey Hitch were leading their match 4-3, the Boxers secured the doubles point and their match was suspended.Â
Singles matches got off to a rough start for the Bruins, as Bobkiewicz dropped her match 6-1, 6-1 to NWC Player of the Year Cassidy Binder.
Shanah Denham was the next to come in, just falling short of a comeback in the second set as she fell to Stella Nishimura 6-0, 6-4. Hitch had the lone match win for the Bruins, winning a three-set thriller 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Her clutch comeback gave the Bruins some hope, with the Bruins needing to win the last three matches in order to advance to the next round.Â
Wiker made a fantastic push to extend the match. After losing the first set 6-3, and going down 5-2 in the second set, Wiker made a miraculous comeback. She won the next three games to force a tie-breaker, eventually winning the second set 7(7) - 6(5). She took that momentum into the third set, winning it 6-4 to give the Bruins another glimmer of hope. After
Sophie Denham split her first two sets 6-7, 6-0, she couldn't pull it back in the third. After a 6-3 loss, the Bruins' season came to an end, as the Boxers secured the match win 4-2.
Juhree Kizziar's match came to a close once the Boxers secured the victory, but she was in a tight match 2-6, 6-2, 2-3 in the third set.Â
