HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Northwest Conference office announced its All-NWC Women's Tennis teams, with three Bruins earning conference honors.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham were one of three pairs named to the First Team doubles roster. Along with
Sophie Denham, Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham were also named to the Second Team singles roster.
Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham built off their chemistry from late last season, winning eight of their 13 doubles matches this year. This marks the first time
Shanah Denham has earned First Team All-NWC honors.
Bobkiewicz earned Second Team recognition for the second time in her career after previously being named to the First Team last season. During her final year as a Bruin, the right-hander defeated the No. 10 NAIA ITA West Region player, as well as the No. 15 Division III West Region singles player. She finished the season with a 10–7 overall record, including a 7–4 mark in Northwest Conference play. Bobkiewicz also earned two Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors and was a nominee for the George Fox Female Student-Athlete of the Year award.
Shanah Denham anchored the No. 2 position throughout the season, finishing with a 10–9 overall record and a 9–5 mark in NWC play. She also went 2–0 at No. 1 singles. The junior recorded three wins over All-NWC Third Team singles selections during the season.
Senior
Sophie Denham earned her first career All-Conference honor to cap off a strong season. She finished 15–4 overall, including a 12–2 record in conference play, making her the winningest Bruin in singles this season. All but one of her matches came at No. 3 singles, with her lone appearance at No. 2 resulting in a victory.
"I'm happy for Riley, Shanah, and Sophie," said Bruin head coach
Rick Cruz. "They were all well deserving of being recognized for their accomplishments on the court."
The Bruins now turn their attention to the Northwest Conference Tournament after finishing the regular season 10–9 and in fourth place. Both the men's and women's teams will face top-seeded Whitman in the semifinals. The women's team travels to Walla Walla, Washington, for a match on Saturday, April 18, scheduled to begin no earlier than 1:00 p.m.
