NEWBERG, Ore. — The Bruins celebrated Senior Day, honoring graduating seniors
Sophie Denham and
Riley Bobkiewicz prior to today's final home match against Linfield. Fox took down the Wildcats in every match to secure a 7–0 sweep.
Coming into today, the Bruins were looking to keep their postseason hopes alive and potentially sneak into the Northwest Conference Tournament. Lewis & Clark and Pacific both sit at 7–5 in conference play, just ahead of the Bruins, who now stand at 7–6 in sixth place. With the Boxers and Pioneers set to face off on April 13 following a power outage postponement, the Bruins' chances remain alive.
To open the day,
Nicole Schnurbusch and
Audrey Gardner posted their first 6–0 doubles sweep of the season on Court No. 3. On Court No. 1, Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham were locked in a tight battle, tied 3–3 early before pulling away for a 6–4 win to clinch the doubles point.
On Court No. 2,
Sophie Denham and
Juhree Kizziar were also tested after a 4–4 tie but closed out the final two games to complete the doubles sweep with a 6–4 victory.
Kizziar opened singles play with a dominant 6–0, 6–0 win on Court No. 4. Gardner followed with a 6–3, 6–0 victory, leaving the Bruins just one win away from clinching the match.
Junior
Shanah Denham secured the team victory on Court No. 2, winning 6–0, 6–3 after being tied 3–3 in the second set.
Sophie Denham added another straight-set win on Court No. 3, 6–3, 6–2, never trailing throughout the match.
Schnurbusch earned a solid win on Court No. 6, defeating Lyla Khlee 6–2, 6–3 to claim the Bruins' penultimate point.
Bobkiewicz sealed the sweep on Court No. 1, battling through a tight first-set tiebreak before winning 7–5 and closing out the match 6–3.
In an additional scrimmage, freshman
Abigail Gonzales fought hard against Lilliana Cano, earning five games in an 8–5 result.
What It Means
With today's win, the Bruins move to 8–9 overall and 7–6 in Northwest Conference play, while the Wildcats fall to 1–16 overall and 1–11 in conference.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was a great day for the team and the seniors," said Bruin head coach
Rick Cruz. "Everyone played well, and the team picked up an important win. Sophie and Riley finishing with wins in their final home match is always great to see."

George Fox women's tennis will face Pacific in its regular-season finale, looking to finish with a winning overall and conference record. The match is set for April 12 at 11:00 a.m in Forest Grove, Ore.
