TACOMA, Wash. -- The George Fox baseball team could not get a run across against the Puget Sound Loggers, losing 9-0 in a game rescheduled from April 6th.
How It Happened
The Bruins got a runner on early, as
Evan Balingit hit a single, then advanced to second on a ground ball out, but the Bruins could not get him around the bases, and the top half ended with Balingit stranded on second. The Loggers jumped out of the gate, hitting a three-run home run with one out that put Fox behind 3-0 early.
Bruins starter
Luke Vrable sat the Loggers down in order in the second inning, stranded a runner on third in the third inning, and then stranded a pair of runners in the fourth to hold the Loggers scoreless for three straight innings. However, the Loggers scored a run on a double steal in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
UPS added another run in the sixth, before scoring three runs in the seventh on three hits, including a two-run home run. The Bruins went into the top of the eight down 8-0, looking to mount a late innings comeback, but were unable to get any traffic on the basepaths, as the Loggers pitching held the Bruins hitless in the eighth. A sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the
eighth pushed the score to 9-0 going into the Bruins' final at-bats of the game in the top of the ninth inning, where they could not get anything going and the game came to an end with the Loggers winning 9-0.
