FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The George Fox University baseball team gave up early runs in the first and third, and were unable to overcome them as they lost to the Pacific University Boxers, 5-1.
How It Happened
The Bruins couldn't get anything going in the first inning, as the top third of the order all struck out looking. The Boxers scored a pair of runs in bottom of the same inning, off of an RBI lineout then again after inducing an error from the Bruins on the basepaths. At the end of the first the score was quickly 2-0, in favor of the Boxers.
Pacific was able to get three more runs across in third after loading the bases and getting a hit-by-pitch and a two RBI single up the middle. New pitcher for the Bruins,
Ryder Edwards, got a pair of strikeouts in the inning to limit the damage, but at the end of the third frame, Fox was down 5-0.
The Bruins got a single and a steal from
Andre Butler to put a runner in scoring position with no outs for GFU.
Carson Coulter was able to cash in, hitting an RBI double and replacing Butler on second. The Boxers' pitching afterwards shut down the Bruins, ending the inning with the Bruins still behind, 5-1.
Edwards settled into the game the rest of the way, not giving up a single run and limiting traffic on the basepaths. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the Boxer's pitching was equally dominant, not allowing a hit the rest of the way and finishing off the Bruins, 5-1.
Top Performances
Ryder Edwards threw six innings, not allowing an earned run, and striking out six batters.
Carson Coulter had an RBI double, and
