NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins completed the weekend sweep against the Whits after taking down Whitworth 6-1 this afternoon.
How It Happened
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Bruins kept the exact same doubles lineup today as they did yesterday, sticking with the new pairings and securing another doubles point. Similar to the start yesterday,
Zach Moore and
Jackson Whittaker got the first win of the day in the No. 2 doubles, sweeping the Pirates 6-0. The other two matches were tight, with each team securing a 6-4 win. The Pirates evened it up after
Ikuho Ebisu and
Luis Hernandez couldn't get it done against Matt Hossack and Easton Weir, but
Lars Schmassmann and
Keita Shoji brought it home to secure the doubles point.
The Bruins won five of the six singles matches to finish out the day, winning the necessary matches to secure the victory. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches finished the exact same way, with Shmassmann and Moore both securing a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Those were the most competitive matches of the day, as all the other matches needed nine games or less to decide each set. Ebisu got revenge on Weir with a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Shoji took down Hossack 6-3, 6-1. Whittaker got the sixth and final point of the day for the Bruins, only giving up one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 spot.
Joseph Vece rounded out the matches for the Bruins, but ended up losing 6-2, 6-3 to give the Pirates their only point of the day.
