FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team continued their tying streak, picking up their fourth tie of the year and third scoreless draw with a 0-0 game against the Pacific Boxers.
How It Happened
The Bruins had a good set-up for the first half with
Marisa Lam at goalie, but Fox had a hard time controlling the ball. 15 minutes into the game, the ball was tossed in to
Liv Haima on the outer right side — Haima attacked immediately, seeing an open shot, but it was blocked by Pacific. The sophomore didn't give up, though, and went towards center again with another shot attempted, but it was saved by the Boxer goalie
Minutes later,
Morgan Phalen tossed the ball to
Tess Scott near center field; Scott's cross aimed for
Isabella Hector, who ran in to attempt a header, but the ball came back down to
Isabelle Carrington's feet as she tried to side-kick it in. The shot was blocked, but the Bruins continued to raise the pressure. Fox was ready to attack again as Haima lunged for the ball, sending it far through the Boxers defense, off the crossbar and out of bounds. Though Fox only managed three statistical shots in the first half, several solid efforts from the defense kept the score tied.
Pacific came back with fire at the start of the second half, as they attempted two shots within the first minute. Haima managed two more cracks at the goal, but both came up fruitless. Fox had another corner kick from the opposite corner, once again to Haima who left-footed it out of bounds.
Makena Speer had the next opportunity, with her shot barely rolling past the goal in the 61st.
The Bruin back line continued to excel into the late stages of the game, withstanding six Pacific second-half shots to keep the game scoreless.
Grace Bach had a shot on frame in the 76th, but the Pacific goalie jumped and batted it over the net and out with her right hand. In a final attempt to score,
Maci Bowman passed the ball in a corner kick, eventually to Haima, who attempted her fifth and final shot of the game for the Bruins. Though Fox couldn't find the back of the net, the Bruins still picked up a point, tying the Boxers, 0-0.
