NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's soccer team had a stunning game, dominating the Bushnell Beacons in a 5-1 win thanks to five first-half goals.
How It Happened
The Bruins were electric immediately; shortly after the whistle was blown,
Alec Buongervino nearly scored. Three minutes later, he got redemption —
Kellin Aguiar then made a quick pass to Buongervino, who took the shot and scored, 1-0, securing the first point of the game. Minutes later, senior
Matthew Woodard faked his way around the right side defense, passing the ball through the goalie to
Eugene Peltier for an open shot, raising the score to 2-0.Â
20 minutes into the first half, the Beacons threw the ball in, but it was immediately stolen by Fox. The usual suspects converted on another attempt: Buongervino passed it from midfield to Peltier, who scored his second goal of the day from the left side to put the Bruins ahead, 3-0.Â
Nearing the end of the first half, the Bruins went in for the kill —
Carson Tapia attempted a low center shot from center field. Though the shot was saved by Bushnell, it was immediately put into the back of the net by
Isaac Williams, giving Fox a four-goal lead. The period wasn't over yet, though, as the Bruins had one more goal left in them.
Carson Tapia's cross found
Pierce ODonnell in the far left of the box, with ODonnell tapping the ball into the net to give Fox their first five-goal half since September 2014 against Multnomah.
The Bruins gave Bushnell some room to breathe in the second half, as Bushnell scored a goal on a wild shot from over 30 yards out. Several Bruins got their first action of the season, with 31 total Bruins playing in the game. Fox was content to let the clock bleed to a 5-1 win, picking up their first victory of the season.
