TACOMA, Wash. -- The George Fox men's soccer team was defeated by the Puget Sound Loggers in an energetic 4-1 game.
How It Happened
The game had a scrappy start as both teams struggled to gain control of the ball—until about 17 minutes in, when Rhys Foote secured the first point of the day — 1-0, Loggers. Three minutes later, the Bruins gained possession as the ball was passed from
Matthew Woodard to
Kaimi Victor, who sprinted in to claim the ball, leaving Puget Sound in the dust. Victor passed it to
Eugene Peltier, whose shot was saved.
Just five minutes after, the ball was sent out of bounds—Fox threw it back in to
Carson Tapia as he quickly made his way around the defense and fired a ball that just missed high left. Fox seemed to want to stay on the right—only just over a minute passed when
Kilinahe Waring attempted a swift shot, immediately dodged by the Loggers. With just under ten minutes remaining,
Kellin Aguiar gave a free kick, sending the ball high to the far left — Waring tried to make a header into the net but it bounced left out of bounds. Though Fox generated chances, it would be the Loggers who struck blood again, scoring late in the period to make the game 2-0.Â
The Loggers instantly made another goal, updating the score to 3-0, but Fox didn't let that subdue them — the Bruins would outshoot the Loggers 13-4 in the period. Midway through the period, Fox got a free kick with Aguiar attempting the shot—it was blocked immediately, but it came back out and Waring got a handle on it, shooting it from far right field, but it was saved by the goalie.
Another run of two attempted shots occurred when the ball was sent far across the other side of the field to Tapia in low right, launching it at Luke Mamiya who saved it, sending him on the ground. Fox grabbed control of the ball again, sending it to the middle with Peltier driving it down and shooting, but unfortunately just missing just to the left of the net.
With fifteen minutes left over, a corner kick for Fox was set in motion, while Tapia maneuvered the ball from the middle, around the Loggers thick defense, and made a clear shot into the net—the Bruins finally secured a goal at 1-3. Fox gave up one additional goal in the closing minutes, dropping the game, 1-4.
