PORTLAND, Ore. – The George Fox men's soccer team was able to steal a 1-0 victory from Lewis & Clark thanks to a last-minute penalty goal by Bruin captain
Kellin Aguiar.
How It Happened
The Bruins came out aggressive, striking early and often against the Pioneers.
Raiden Renggli had the best look early on, attempting a shot in the 11th minute of the game.
Eugene Peltier,
Isaac Williams, and
Kellin Aguiar all took shots within the same minute to put pressure on the Pioneer defense. In spite of the assault, the score remained 0-0.
Kalinahe Waring attempted a shot for the Bruins, but was unable to find the back of the net. The 10th and final shot of the half was taken by
Quincy Walker, who was unable to break the stalemate before the buzzer.
Despite a collective 14 shots taken by both teams — 10 for George Fox and four for the Pios — the game remained scoreless at the end of the first half.
Elijah Soon joined the fray, taking a shot of his own in an attempt to raise the score, but to no avail.
Isaac Williams and
Wilson Fresh combined forces to challenge the Pioneer defense, attempting back-to-back shots early in the second half just six seconds apart from each other. Soon, though, the game would change.
A high challenge from Lewis & Clark resulted in the second yellow card of the day for Kaden Nakamura, which resulted in a red and left the Pioneers with 10 men for the remainder of the game. 11 minutes later, those 10 men became nine as a second red card in the final five minutes of the game brought the Pioneers down two men.
With Fox living next to the goal for the final five minutes two men up,
Quincy Walker drew a penalty in the box after a tackle cost him a chance at a shot. The Bruin captain Aguiar was chosen to face the Pioneer goalkeeper one-on-one. Aguiar charged the ball from an angle as the ball sailed into the top right of the net to score and give Fox the shocking win, 1-0.
The win was the second time in the past three games against the Pios that the Bruins needed late magic to come out on top. In 2024, Fox needed a goal from
Isaac Williams with 83 seconds left to win the game. This time, it was Aguiar with 82 seconds left — either way, it was three points for the Bruins.
