BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, announced its team for the week of September 20, with the Bruins'
Jacob Erickson featured as a member.
The defensive end had one of the best games in George Fox football history, recording a program-record five sacks in a dominant effort for the Bruins against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Erickson led the team with a career-high 11 tackles — six of which were for a loss — and was a force to be reckoned with all day, finishing with one forced fumble and three QB hurries to go along with his program-record number of sacks.Â
The senior recorded six tackles and three sacks in the fourth quarter alone; his sacks mark is the most in NCAA Division III this season and the most by a Northwest Conference player in over 20 years. For the season, Erickson has seven sacks already; he needs just four more over the remaining seven games to break his own single-season program record and just half a sack to break the mark for most in a career.
One other NWC athlete was named to the team of the week alongside Erickson: Lewis & Clark's JT Chavez, who recorded two sacks of his own in the Pios' 21-3 win over Pomona-Pitzer.
With the award, Erickson becomes the 10th Bruin player to be named to the Team of the Week, with nine of the 10 players coming on the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker Charles Riga remains the only Bruin named to the D3football.com Team of Week twice — something Erickson hopes to accomplish in the Bruins' homecoming matchup against Linfield on October 4.
