Fox Kicks Off Title Defense With Arizona State Tournament

1/31/2026 9:02:00 PM

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The defending champion George Fox STUNT started their season strong, earning three wins in their first-ever five-game weekend at the Arizona State Tournament. The Bruins downed Grand Canyon, Arizona Christian, and UC Davis, with losses to Arizona State and Cal Baptist.

How It Happened - Day One
The Bruins began their title defense with a 12-3 win over the No. 9-ranked club STUNT team, Grand Canyon, before dropping a game to the No. 4-ranked Arizona State club team, 15-26. The Bruins wrapped up their first day with a competition against NAIA Arizona Christian. Fox defeated the No. 4-ranked Firestorm, 23-6.

The Bruins got off to an early lead against the Antelopes, scoring three points over the opening routines of the first half and taking that 3-0 lead into the break. The game was never in doubt as Fox led 8-1 in the late stages of the game and coasted to a 12-3 win to get the season off to a solid start.

The next matchup against Arizona State would be a match that turned out to be a barnburner. In what would end up being the highest-scoring game in GFU STUNT history (Thanks in part to a rule change in scoring where one team can be rewarded two points and another team one if the routine is "within two"), the Stunt Devils took the first point.

The Bruins would battle back after dropping their first two routines, winning a point, but would still trail 5-2 and 7-3. A strong third quarter kept Fox's hope alive, though, as they gained several points to make the score 15-9 heading to the fourth. The Bruins got as close at 15-10, but the Stunt Devils put the game out of reach in what turned out to be a key moral victory for Fox in a 26-15 loss.

Fox bounced back, in a big way, though — dominating in a win over Arizona Christian in their third game of the day. Though they lost the first point, GFU rattled off several solid routines to take a halftime lead. By the time jumps and tumbling was finished, Fox was well ahead of Firestorm. The Bruins coasted to a 23-6 — the second-largest win in program history, trailing only an 18-point victory over Sonoma State in 2025.

How It Happened - Day Two
The Bruins began their second day with one of their toughest opponents in program history in the No. 1-ranked Division I school, Cal Baptist. The Lancers, who are 111-0 all-time and the defending Division I National Champion, took down the Bruins, 24-0.

Fox bounced back in their next game, facing a top club team in No. 7 UC Davis. The Bruins and Aggies battled it out, with the the Bruins scoring the first point but the game remaining close. Fox jumped out to a 4-2 lead, and lead 10-7 entering the fourth. That fourth quarter is where GFU STUNT came to play —Fox earned 11 points to the Aggies eight, and pulled away after the first two routines. When all was said and done, the George Fox STUNT team had downed a Division I club team, beating UC Davis, 21-15.

"We are very impressed by how our athletes showed up today," Bruin program director Reba McLennan said, "With half of the team being new to STUNT they showed poise, determination and commitment though every round. We had the opportunity to play many different levels and different groups within each routine and allowed our roster to gain confidence and depth. We are so proud of our athletes and look forward to the next games!"
