NEWBERG, Ore. — The George Fox women's soccer team went up against Northwest Conference leader and No. 25 ranked Puget Sound that resulted in a tough 6-0 loss.
How It Happened
On the defensive end, the Bruins started off strong; in the first four minutes alone, goalkeeper
Myann Johansen recorded two saves — one to the top right side and the other to the bottom left — before the Loggers were able to break through with a goal in the seventh minute, 1-0. Johansen continued to put up a fight at the net and saved a top shot in the tenth minute while GFU's defense came together for a team save 14 minutes in.
However, over the next couple of minutes, Puget Sound proved why they are the current Northwest Conference leader. The team put together a total of four goals in just seven minutes to significantly widen their lead, 5-0. Despite the score, the Bruins were still battling with their own offense — especially
Maddie Twichell. 33 minutes in, Twichell was able to sneak in a shot on goal that was unfortunately stopped short by the Loggers' goalkeeper. Just seconds later, Puget Sound recorded another goal, leading for the first to end, 6-0.
The second half brought a change of pace for the Bruins — both on the offensive and defensive end. This time around, Only three minutes into the period,
Erin Lam showed off her aggression and took a bottom center shot; once again however, the Loggers' goalkeeper was there for another unfortunate save. For the rest of the game, Fox goalkeeper
Clair Moss made sure to prevent any more Puget Sound goals. Moss ended the half with five saves from all over the goal. Despite their many offensive attempts in the second half, the Loggers couldn't add more to their score and took the game 6-0.
