NEWBERG, Ore. -- It was a home court victory as the George Fox women's volleyball team picked up their second straight win with a clean sweep against the Pacific Boxers to kick of homecoming weekend.
How It Happened
The Bruins came out with fire, ready to dominate the match. Boxer attack errors, as well as an ace by
Addison Goff, stacked on kills from
Eden Cha and
Gracie Bearden, gave Fox a quick 5-0 lead.
Chloe Wiersma was all over the floor, delivering assists, and Fox increased the lead to 8-3. They continued to go on an offensive heavy stretch, a collection of Bruins racking up the points, now a whopping 20-5.
Addison Goff picked up a kill, as well as
Audrey Schmitt, and
Kendall Stidham found the closing service, first set to Fox, 25-9.
Pacific notched a point at the start of the second set, but Goff was ready to deliver an ace, and Cha followed with a kill, 4-1. Stidham and Cha were a troublesome duo, performing a block to push Fox up, 9-5.
Jordan Hahn came in and immediately made herself known, smacking a hit, 10-5. Goff got another kill, passed from
Gracie Bearden, who then turned around and tallied a hit for herself, Stidham assisting, 15-8.
Bearden hit another, Goff trading for an assist this time. The Bruins capitalized on the Boxer's mistakes, and with help from a kill by Wiersma, and a dual ace and kill from Bearden, they claimed the second set, 25-15.
The third set was the closest of them all, with Pacific putting up a fight. The lead changed hands several times between 11-11 and 16-16, with Fox taking advantage of the poor-hitting Bruins. Hahn helped the train to pull away with two kills thanks to assists from Wiersma, and
Madelyn Gunn ace (20-17) confirmed that Fox had left the station. Gunn delivered the final blow, another service ace, which rattled the opposition to give away points, and concede the set, 25-18, and the game to Fox, 3-0.
