DEMOREST, Ga. — After a surprise double header because of weather changes, the George Fox baseball team ended the day with two tough losses: one to Rhodes,12-2, and one to No. 7 Lynchburg, 10-0.
How It Happened - Rhodes
The Bruins were the first to bring the heat early on in the first game of the day. After a one, two, three top of the first with
Michael Singleton on the mound,
Garrett Strube continued the energy into the offensive end with a triple; a sacrifice fly from
Evan Balingit allowed Strube to score and put GFU on the board, 1-0. Going into the second inning, both teams couldn't connect on the offensive end and couldn't get past the tough defense each team put up.
It wasn't until the third inning that the Lynx were able to answer back; Rhodes was able to load the bases, and after a grand slam, they were able to quickly take the lead. However, the Lynx didn't stop there, scoring three more runs off of hits to widen the gap to 8-1. While George Fox couldn't answer back in the third, Rhodes was able to add yet another run before GFU earned another sacrifice fly, this one from
Danner Hamburg, to score
Austin Stalwick.
The Bruins were unable to score for the rest of the game, but they were able to limit the Lynx from doing further damage. After another Rhodes run in the fifth, GFU held them scoreless for an inning before the Lynx scraped out two more runs in the seventh and the ninth to end the game, 12-2.
How It Happened - Lynchburg
Game two began with a battle of pitchers and it took until the second inning for the score to shift 1-0 in Lynchburg's favor. It took until the bottom of the sixth for any team to score again as the Bruins held their own against the No. 7 team in the NWBCA/D3baseball.com poll. In the meantime, GFU was putting the ball in play;
Joey Marasco and Strube singled in the third,
Andre Butler singled in the fourth,
Kaden Oshiro singled and also recorded a steal, and
BJ Tokushima singled in the sixth. Despite their best efforts, GFU couldn't piece their offense together to score.
Lynchburg on the other hand, found success in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs and blew the game open afterwards. With multiple singles and walks, the Werewolves were able to end the game early 10-0 in the eighth after scoring six runs in the inning.
