NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's basketball season came to a close on Saturday, with the Bruins ending their year with a 94-70 loss to the Linfield Wildcats.
How It Happened
Fox honored their lone senior,
Cory Schramm, before the game began, thanking him for his two years spent with the program. The Bruins targeted Schramm early, getting him involved on the offense as the senior forward had a shot attempt, an offensive rebound, and an assist in the early stages.
That assist was to
Jake Centner, who hit a triple to give Fox an early 3-2 lead. From the get-go, though, it was clear how Linfield wanted to beat the Bruins: three pointers. The Wildcats hit three straight triples to go up seven points early on.
Dre Lawrence had a tough finish while
Sydney Natche had a dunk to keep Fox close, but the Wildcats refused to miss from deep, hitting two additional triples.
Anthony Williams and
Noah Marte each hit a shot from behind the arc, but the Wildcats hit two more shots from three to kick off an 8-0 run. Lawrence and
Donovan Cooks were the only two Bruins to score in four minutes as Linfield continued to extend their lead to 20. Fittingly, the Wildcats' Peyton Reyes capped with a triple as Linfield shot a staggering 11-15 (73%) from deep in the half to take a 57-33 lead.
The Wildcats started the second half with another three, but the Bruins continued to fight hard with shots from Natche and Centner. While Fox found themselves down by as many as 27, the Bruins slowly began to whittle away.
Jamar Mitchell had a tough and-one before
Nico Cervantes had a five-point sequence in a matter of seconds as he hit a shot, stole the inbounds pass, and nailed a triple.
With 10:48 left, the Bruins got within 20 points, and at the 8:54 mark, a Mitchell tip-in put the Bruins down 16. That would be as close as Fox would get, and Linfield buries another triple to put any comeback hopes to rest — the Wildcats would end the day with 17 triples, the fifth-most in program history. Cervantes had the final points of the 2025-26 season for the Bruins as Fox dropped their final game of the year, 94-70.
