HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Northwest Conference office announced its Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of February 17 through February 23, with
Zach Moore,
Nicole Ledendecker,
Makayla Noone, and
Lana Davis named to the weekly honor.
Moore went unbeaten over the weekend to help secure the Bruins' third straight win. The Oregon native swept both of his doubles matches against Willamette and Puget Sound on the No. 1 court, winning 6-0, 6-0 in each match with partner
Ikuho Ebisu. He went on to play the No. 1 singles matches in both contests, defeating Willamette 6-2, 6-2. Against Puget Sound, he won the first set 6-2 and, after being tested in the second, edged out a 6-4 victory to close out the weekend.
Ledendecker picked up the third NWC Pitcher of the Week honor of her career. She helped start the Bruins' season off right with two wins in her two games pitched, including an upset victory over No. 4 Redlands. The sophomore started her season with just one run and five hits given up in six innings of action in a 5-1 win over La Verne, before a complete-game 10-5 victory against the No. 4 Bulldogs. For the weekend, Ledendecker was 2-0 with 13 innings pitched, a 2.69 ERA, and five strikeouts.
Noone took home the softball NWC Player of the Week honors after her performances over the weekend. started in all four games for the Bruins in a 2-2 week against La Verne and No. 4 Redlands. The junior was a standout 6-7 at the plate against those Top 5 Bulldogs, totaling three runs and two stolen bases in the series. For the weekend, Noone totaled eight hits (one of which was a triple) with a .533 batting average, with four runs scored and four stolen bases. The outfielder also had a 100% fielding percentage for the weekend.
Davis had one of the best games of her storied career, recording the eighth-most points in a game all-time for the George Fox women's lacrosse team in a 23-1 win over Eastern Oregon. The senior had six goals on seven shots, tacking on four assists as well, to finish the game with a career-high 10 points. In addition to her offensive prowess, Davis had four ground balls and seven draw controls to help the Bruins begin the year with the win.
Moore and the men's tennis team will be facing off against Whitman on Saturday, February 28 in Walla Walla, Wash. Davis and the lacrosse team will take on Redlands also on Saturday, February 28 at home. Ledendecker, Noone and the softball team will compete against No. 3 Linfield at home on Saturday, March 7.
