NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox University women's lacrosse team competed hard against the Redlands Bulldogs, but ultimately couldn't get the win, dropping the game, 13-7. 

How It Happened
It was a far cary from their season opener against Eastern Oregon for Fox, as the Bruins faced a far more talented team in Redlands. Fox managed just one shot on goal in the first period, a shot by Naomi Rauch five minutes into the period that was saved. The Bulldogs scored two goals, one at the beginning of the period and one with one minute remaining, ending the first up, 2-0. 

In the eighth minute of the second period, Fox drew their best chance of the day with a free position shot. Lana Davis took advantage, scoring the first goal for the Bruins. A mere eight seconds later, Davis won the draw control and marched down the field, scoring another goal. The Bulldogs responded with two goals of their own, both by Emily Webster, which left the Bruins down three, 5-2, going into the third period.

In the third, it was Ava Blum who  got the draw control and immediately took it all the way through the Bulldogs defense, scoring her first goal of the game. Redlands scored off a free-position shot one minute later as the game's offense ramped up. Just 30 seconds later, it was Merrick Gibson who scored her first goal of the game, as Sasha Thayer picked up GFU's first assist of the game. Kat Ellett, who checked into the game at goalie for the second half, recorded four saves in each quarter she played in to help contain a relentless Redlands offense, though the Bulldogs managed one more score before the period ended. Claire Abraham closed out the third with a goal off of an assist from Bluhm, making the score 5-8 as the teams headed to the fourth.

Redlands opened up the fourth with a successful free-position shot, but Fox put together a brief rally with seven minutes remaining; Abraham picked up a ground ball and gave it to Davis, who scored. Abraham then won the draw control, passing to Davis, who assisted Bluhm as Fox cut the deficit to two, 9-7. Unfortunately, the Bruins would not tally a shot in the remainder of the period as the Bulldogs scored four goals before the clock ran out, handing Fox the 13-7 loss.

Top Performances
Lana Davis ended with a team-high three goals and one assist to go alongside seven draw controls. Ava Bluhm was the other Bruins with a multi-goal game, totaling two. Claire Abraham led the way with four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and had a goal to boot. Jenna Clark also had three caused turnovers. Kat Ellet had eight saves in goal, and Gabrielle McClung had four. 

What It Means
The Bruins are now 1-1. The Bulldogs are 3-1.
