PORTLAND, Ore. — The Bruins men's tennis team played their lone match of the weekend, losing to the River Otters 6-1 on the road, falling to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the Northwest Conference this season.
How It Happened
Despite the lopsided score, the individual games reflected how close the Bruins came to possibly changing the outcome.
Set one on the No. 1 doubles court featured
Zach Moore and
Ikuho Ebisu securing three games for the Bruins against their challengers. Fox ultimately lost the match 6-3 in a highly competitive battle, giving the River Otters one of their three doubles wins.
On Court No. 2,
Aiden Cruz and Kieta Shoji demonstrated a spirited showdown versus Noah Sutin and Kai Wills. The match stretched to 6-6 before a narrow tiebreak loss for the Bruins, ending 7-3.
Luis Hernandez and
Joseph Vece appeared on Court No. 3 in doubles. The duo also reached a 6-6 score before a tiebreak decided the set. The Bruins won three games but ultimately fell 7-3, marking a clean sweep of doubles for Lewis & Clark.
Cruz earned the singles victory and the lone point for the Bruins on Court No. 5, defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
Shoji took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set by the same score. He then lost the third set 6-1, leaving everything on the court.
On Court No. 3, Ebisu narrowly lost both sets, starting with a 7-5 first-set loss and pushing his opponent to 6-6 in the second set, forcing a tiebreak. He earned three game wins in the tiebreak, which ended 7-3 in favor of the Otters.
Joseph Vece faced the No. 6 singles player for Lewis & Clark, combining for eight game wins across both sets. He lost 6-3, 7-5, giving the River Otters another point.
Moore competed on Court No. 1 against Kaden Sigurdsson, taking three games in the first set (6-3) and four games in the second set (6-4).
On Court No. 4, Hernandez lost 6-3, 6-1 after giving his all on the court.
The Bruins now travel to the East Coast for their next matches, hoping to improve their overall record above .500.
What's Next
The Bruins will fly to Orlando, Fla., to begin their spring break tournament, facing Colby-Sawyer College on Monday, March 16. The match is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
