ORLANDO, Fla. — Fox opened its spring break tournament in Orlando, Fla., with a challenging loss to Southwestern University (Georgetown, Tex.). With the loss, the Bruins fall to 4-6 overall and remain 4-4 in the Northwest Conference.
How It Happened
Audrey Gardner and
Nicole Schnurbusch opened the day on Court No. 3 with a 6-0 loss against Southwestern's doubles duo of Kimberly Duncan and Addison Powell. The Bruins then moved to Court No. 2, where
Sophie Denham and
Juhree Kizziar battled back after falling behind 5-0, winning two games to cut the deficit to 5-2 before ultimately dropping the match 6-2, securing the doubles point for the Pirates.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Shanah Denham delivered the lone doubles win for Fox on Court No. 1. The pair jumped out to a 2-0 lead, briefly saw the score even at 2-2, and then regained control to finish strong with a 6-2 victory.
In singles, Gardner fell 6-1, 6-0 on Court No. 5. Bobkiewicz started strong with a 2-0 lead in set one but ultimately dropped her match on Court No. 1, 6-3, 6-1.
The match-clinching point for Southwestern came on Court No. 3, where So. Denham fell 6-0, 6-1, giving the Pirates the overall victory.
Kizziar battled on Court No. 4, trailing just 4-3 in set one before falling 6-3 and then 6-2 in set two. Schnurbusch also competed well on Court No. 6, narrowing the set one gap to 5-4 after trailing 4-2, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-1.
The final match of the day featured Sh. Denham on Court No. 2 against Daryl Locke. Denham led 3-2 in set one and trailed just 5-4 in set two before narrowly falling in both, 6-4, 6-4, completing the sweep for the Pirates.

The Bruins will continue their tournament run against No. 30 Denison on March 19, with the match set to begin at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
