Fox Picks Up Two Wins in Opposite Fashion to Conclude Orlando Stay

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The George Fox women's tennis team wrapped up their Orlando Spring Break Trip on a high note, finishing off with a pair of wins — a close 4-3 effort of Luther and a dominant 7-0 win over Huntingdon.

How It Happened
In their first game of the day, the Bruins got behind the eight ball in the early goings, losing all three of the doubles matches to fall down, 1-0. Despite the losses, the Bruins were still competitive: the teams of Riley Bobkiewicz and Shanah Denham and Sophie Denham and  Juhree Kizziar each lost 6-4, while Audrey Gardner and Nicole Schnurbusch lost, 6-2.

The singles matches for the Bruins proved to be far more fruitful, as Fox captured four of the six to take the game in thrilling fashion. The Bruins split a pair of three-set matches, with Gardner winning on court five, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8); Shanah Denham lost on court two in a hard-fought effort, 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (8-10).

Schnurbusch had the only other loss for the Bruins, getting swept in the process. Meanwhile, Bobkiewicz won (6-2, 6-2) in a battle of number one singles, while Kizziar won 6-3, 6-4. Sophie Denham battled out a close 7-6 set one victory on court three to grab control of the game. Denham went on to win the second set, 6-2, to give Fox an impressive 4-3 win overall.

Mere hours later, the Bruins built off of that success with a wire-to-wire victory over Huntingdon. Fox swept every single set, with two doubles teams (Bobkiewicz/Sh. Denham, So. Denham/Kizziar) and one singles team (Gardner), not conceding a single game. Schnurbusch picked up the most dominant win over her career on court number six, helping the Bruins to an easy 7-0 win with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

What It Means
The Bruins improve to 6-7 on the season. Huntingdon falls to 2-5 while Luther slips to 10-4.

Up Next
Fox heads back to Oregon and returns to NWC play with a home game against Willamette. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am
