Neil Lomax is entering his first year with the Bruin Football program in 2021 and brings years of coaching experience along with professional and collegiate playing experience.
Neil was one of the most prolific and productive quarterbacks in NCAA history. During his four years at Portland State University under legendary Coach Darrell “Mouse” Davis (1977-80), Neil held over 90 NCAA Division 1 passing records and still is the only college quarterback to throw for seven TDs in one quarter. Averaging over 3,000 per season, he compiled just over 13,500 yards and 110 TDs. In his senior year alone, he threw for more than 4,000 yards and 37 touchdowns. He played in the 1981 East-West Shrine All-Star game, and was MVP of the '81 Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL., and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy balloting. Neil was elected to the National Football College Hall of Fame in 1996 with fellow inductees Walter Payton and Terry Bradshaw.
Neil was drafted as the second overall quarterback by the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications in 1981. He was voted NFL All-Rookie team in 1981 and earned Pro Bowl honors in 1984 and 1988. The Cardinals moved to Arizona in 1988, and he finished his ten years in Phoenix as their second all-time leading passer.
From 1991-1993, Neil served as color analyst and sideline reporter for ESPN's College Football and the Cardinals Television Network pre-season games. He also hosted radio shows in St. Louis, Phoenix, and Portland. During this time, Neil started his own sports event and management company. ProMax Events has owned and managed special events like the Quarterback Shootout, Les Schwab Bowl, Les Schwab Invitational, and several other for-profit and non-profit events, with all net proceeds benefiting local charities.
Neil continues to coach and run his annual football camps in the Portland area in addition to Nike Football Training Camps.
Neil is involved with several charitable organizations, especially Young Life and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He spends most of his time developing these youth ministries while helping them host special events to help raise awareness and additional funding.
He is more than excited to join the George Fox Football Family and bring his experience and passion to helping and leading young men in their life journey.
Neil and his wife Laurie live in Tualatin, Ore. and have four kids and five grandchildren.
