Lauren Hayden first joined the Bruins' staff for the 2019-20 season after a three-year stint at the University of Lynchburg (Virginia) from 2016 to 2019. Hayden worked with the Hornets for two years as a graduate assistant and earned a master's degree in education before serving a third year as an assistant coach. During her time on staff, the Hornets compiled a 66-26 overall record, two conference tournament appearances, and a trip to the second round of the NCAA DIII Tournament.

In her first year as an assistant coach at Fox, Hayden helped lead the Bruins to the NCAA DIII Sweet Sixteen and a Northwest Conference Tournament Championship. Two Bruins - Emily Holder and Emily Spencer - were named All-NWC and the team finished the year ranked No. 17 on the court and No. 12 in the classroom by the WBCA.

Hayden attended the University of New England (Maine) from 2012 to 2016 and played four seasons as a guard for the Nor'Easters. She was named a team captain for her junior and senior seasons and holds program records for most career steals (404), most single-season steals (128), and most steals in a game (10). Hayden helped lead her team to four Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament championships and four NCAA DIII Tournament appearances, including three straight trips to the second round.

Hayden was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) 30 Under 30 as one of the most promising young coaches in the field in 2018. She is originally from Chantilly, Virginia.
