NEWBERG, Ore.  – Recent struggles to put runs on the board continued to plague the George Fox University Bruins Friday afternoon here at Morse Field as the visiting Pacific University Boxers handed the home team a double whitewashing, 6-0 and 10-0 in five innings, in Northwest Conference softball action.

In the first game, the Boxers' Miranda McNealy (10-4) tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and three walks.  She out-dueled Bruin southpaw Chelsea Bradely (4-19), who scattered eight hits in seven innings, allowing six runs, four earned, with nine strikeouts and two walks.

The Boxers got all the runs they would need in the 1st as Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen doubled, Kelly Nishitomi singled her to third, and the two worked a double steal.  Nishitomi later scored on a wild pitch.

Pacific added single runs in the 3rd through 5th innings and again in the 7th.  Brooke Fogwell singled in a run in the 3rd, Kim Okaneku drew a bases-loaded walk in the 4th, Carrie Maerz's ground out produced an unearned run in the 5th, and Maerz doubled and scored on an error in the 7th.

Fogwell and Jessie Garcia had two hits each for the Boxers, while Kerstyn Tsuruda, Audrey Dove, and Becka Doyle collected the Bruins' three safeties.

In the second game, Pacific's Lauren Tuey (4-1) and Amanda Miller combined on a two-hitter, Tuey working the first four innings and Miller the final one, with each surrendering one hit.  Tuey had eight strikeouts and one walk, while Miller had one of each.  Shelby Briske (0-1) started and went two innings for the Bruins, allowing seven runs, five earned, on five hits and five walks while she fanned two.  Erin Lee tossed the last three frames and allowed six hits and three runs.

The Boxers put the game away quickly, scoring three in the 1st and four more in the 2nd.  A Fogwell ground out, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Okaneku accounted for the 1st inning runs.  Chelsey Chamberlain hit a bases-loaded triple and then scored on a ground out for the big rally in the 2nd.

Okaneku added an RBI double for a run in the 4th, and Chamberlain and Garcia had run-scoring singles in the 5th.  The game was halted after five innings by the eight-run rule.

Fogwell led the Boxers' 11-hit attack with three hits, driving in two, while Chamberlain had two hits, scored three, and drove in four.  Okaneku and Jenna Scribner also had two hits apiece, Okaneku driving in two and Scribner scoring twice.  Singles by Tsuruda in the 3rd and Briske in the 5th were all that could be mustered by the Bruins, who have dropped 11 in a row, the last five by shutouts.

George Fox (4-23, NWC 3-15) will try to snap its losing skid Saturday afternoon when the Bruins again play Pacific (20-9, NWC 11-6) in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 noon.
