PACIFIC LUTHERAN 11-12, GEORGE FOX 1-1: Hagensen's Bat and Arm Lead Lutes by Bruins Twice

Box Score Game 1
Box Score Game 2

NEWBERG, Ore.
  – Stacey Hagensen went 5-for-7 with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored on the day and got the pitching victory in the second game as the visiting Pacific Lutheran University Lutes took a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader from the George Fox University Bruins 11-1 and 12-1 Saturday afternoon here at Morse Field.

Hagensen's two-run homer following an Amber Roberts single got the Lutes going in the top of the 1st in game one.  Jordan Liebe tripled and scored on Rachel Wheeler's single up the middle later in the inning for a 3-0 PLU lead.

Audrey Dove singled in Amy Peterson with an unearned run in the bottom of the 1st for the Bruins' only score against Wheeler (2-9), who pitched a two-hitter, striking out two and walking one.  Becka Doyle's infield single in the 2nd was the only other hit Wheeler allowed.

The Lutes, meanwhile, added another run in the 3rd on a double by Caitlin Brown and a single by Crystal Reno, then put the game away with seven unearned runs in the 5th following two costly Bruin errors.  Dean Harkovitch singled in two runs, Roberts singled in one, another scored on a throwing error, and Hagensen capped the frame with a three-run shot to left, her fourth round tripper of the year.

Roberts and Wheeler each had three hits out of the Lutes' total of 14, while Hagensen had two home runs and five RBIs.  Bruin southpaw Chelsey Bradely (4-23) took the loss despite allowing only four earned runs, striking out three and walking one.

In the second game, Hagensen (10-8) scattered six hits, fanning two without a walk.  She took a three-hitter into the last of the 5th, when the Bruins scored their only run a single by Pam Wilkins, a force out by Krystle Halvorsen, and a run-scoring two-out double to left-center by Kerstyn Tsuruda.

The Lutes jumped on Erin Lee (0-5), who worked three innings, for four in the 1st and 2nd innings and two more in the 3rd.  Hagensen had an RBI double and Liebe a run-scoring single in the 1st before PLU tacked on two unearned runs.  In the 2nd, Roberts walked, stole second and third, and scored on a ground out by Brown before Reno singled in one run and Shelby Johnston knocked in two.  Hagensen doubled in one and scored on Vanessa Bryant's pinch single in the 3rd.

PLU picked up its final two runs in the 5th off reliever Shelby Briske on a sacrifice fly by Brown that scored Danielle Palmer and a single by Wheeler to plate Missy Waldron.

Hagensen finished with a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Liebe also had two hits as the Lutes collected 12 in all.

George Fox (4-29, NWC 3-21) will try to snap a 17-game losing streak Sunday against the University of Puget Sound in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 noon.  Two of the Bruins' four victories this season are over the Loggers.  Pacific Lutheran (14-20, NWC 12-10) visits Lewis & Clark College Sunday for a pair at noon.
