SALEM, Ore. – Rookie outside hitter Erin Campbell collected 14 kills, six more than any other hitter in the match, in leading the visiting George Fox University Bruins to their second straight road win, a 3-1 decision over the Willamette University Bearcats in Northwest Conference women's volleyball Friday night here at the Cone Field House.

The Bruins' 25-13, 17-25, 25-20, 25-15 win gave them back-to-back victories for only the second time this season (they had won four in a row following a season-opening setback) after defeating Pacific University on Wednesday  George Fox improved to 9-14 overall and 4-10 in the conference, while Willamette slipped to 7-15 overall and 4-9 in league play.

George Fox jumped out a 7-1 lead to start the match, led by three kills from Stephanie Kerr, and did not look back in the first set.  The Bruins totaled 13 kills in the set to Willamette's five, hitting .265 while holding the Bearcats to a minus -.105 percentage.  The Bruins used a 6-0 run and three runs of 4-0 to build as much as a 13-point lead, that at 24-11 following a kill by Kylee Adderson.

Willamette bounced back to win the second set, breaking a 7-7 tie with a 12-4 run that put the Bearcats up 19-11. Following a 4-0 George Fox run that cut the margin to 19-15, Willamette closed the set by utilizing three Bruin attack errors and a rare kill by setter Emily Compton.  The Bearcats improved to a .074 hitting percentage while stifling the Bruins with a minus -.250 mark (only four kills and 13 errors).

The Bruins regained their hitting touch in the third set, which was the most closely contested of the match. The teams battled back and forth, with the margin never more than two points either way, all the way up to a 20-20 deadlock.  From there, George Fox took over, closing the set on a 5-0 run behind three consecutive kills from Betsy Wilhelm, a Bearcat ball-handling error, and a block by Brooke Molloy and Tiffany Burk.

George Fox led from start to finish in the fourth and final set, building an early 9-3 lead behind a pair of kills by Campbell.  Ahead only 15-11, the Bruins seized firm control with a 6-0 run that made it 21-11, Burk contributing three kills to the rally.  Amanda White's ace closed out the match.

After Campbell's big offensive show, Burk and Wilhelm posted six kills each as the Bruins hit .105 to .030 for the Bearcats.  Mackenzie Teigen handed out 26 assists.  Defensively, Patti Reeves led all players with 19 digs, Wilhelm added 14, Campbell had 12, and Teigen and Chelsea Wilson had 10 each.  The Bruins had 11 team blocks, with Burk assisting on seven of them.

Madisyn Leenstra had eight kills and Nicole Mertens seven for the Bearcats, who were without the services of Carly Hargrave, their No. 2 player in kills and hitting percentage, who missed her third straight match due to illness.  Compton had 25 assists.  Mertens led the defense with 15 digs, Compton had 13, and Kathy Lee Glenn made 11.  Kathrin Miracle contributed six block assists.

NEXT: George Fox returns home to host the University of Puget Sound next Friday at 7:00 p.m., the Bruins' final home game of the season.  Seniors Kerr and Reeves will be recognized for their Bruin careers in ceremonies before the match ... Willamette hosts Lewis & Clark College Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
