Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. –
McKenzie Beeson hit her first home run and Rachel Fielder and Erin
Hento combined to win a 2-1 pitchers' duel for George Fox
University at Lewis & Clark College in the first game of
Northwest Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon here
at the Huston Sports Complex, but the second game was rained
out.
Beeson's solo shot leading off the top of the 2nd gave the
Bruins a 1-0 lead, and they added another run in the 5th.
Jenny Milton started the rally with a single and Kris Trindle
reached on an error at short. A wild pitch moved the runners
up, and Bethany Chriss delivered Milton with a sacrifice fly to
center.
That was enough for southpaw Fielder (4-1) and right-hander
Hento, who earned her third save. Fielder went 4.0 innings,
allowing only two hits with a strikeout and no walks. Hento
worked the final three innings, spacing three hits with five
strikeouts and a walk. She allowed an unearned run in the 7th
when Amanda Rabith walked, Moriah Lane reached on an error at
short, and Natalie Rose doubled in pinch runner Jet'aime
Mullins, but Hento got a strikeout and a popup with the tying and
winning runs in scoring position to earn the save.
Madison Hollenbeck (0-6) went the distance for the Pioneers,
allowing seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
NEXT: George Fox (11-8, NWC 6-3) and Lewis
& Clark (0-12, NWC 0-9) were scheduled to play two more on
Sunday, but that has also been postponed, and no makeup date has
been set for any of the three remaining games in the series ... The
Bruins' next action will be Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 17-18, with
12:00 noon doubleheaders both days at home against Pacific Lutheran
University ... The Pioneers will play again Mar. 17, hosting
Willamette University for a 12:00 noon twinbill.
