Box Score 2 TACOMA, Wash. – Playing
a flawless two games in the field with outstanding pitching and 24
total hits, the George Fox University Bruins took a doubleheader
from the University of Puget Sound Loggers, 7-3 and 11-2, to
complete a four-game sweep of their Northwest Conference softball
series Sunday afternoon here at Logger Field.
Game 1 – George Fox 7, at Puget Sound

George Fox battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to win the
opener, exploding for five runs in the 5th inning to take
control. Puget Sound struck for two in the 1st when Chrissy
Atterson drilled a two-run home run, and got another in the 2nd as
Amy Schmeckpepper singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on
two ground outs.
The Bruins started their comeback with a pair of runs in the 3rd
on a walk to Felicia Chavez and Bethany
Chriss's second home run of the season to
left. In the 5th, the Bruins loaded the bases with one out on
a Kris Trindle single, an error on a Chavez grounder, and a walk to
Chriss. McKenzie Beeson put the Bruins ahead with a two-run
single, Chriss scored on a wild pitch, and Kerrianne Davidson
singled to score Beeson and Mckynna Towery, who had been hit by a
pitch.
Southpaw Rachel Fielder (3-1) got the win after relieving
starter Allyssa DenDekker in the 1st, working 3.2 innings while
allowed five hits but only one run. Erin Hento notched her
second save with 2.2 innings of one-hit shutout relief, fanning two
with no walks. Aryn Grause (0-3) took the loss.
Chriss and Beeson had two hits apiece out of the Bruins'
total of nine. Puget Sound had 11 hits, with Brianna Huber,
Atterson, Elayna Van Hess, and Schmeckpepper getting two each.
Game 2 - George Fox 11, at Puget Sound 2
Three multi-run innings and a 15-hit attack, led by
Chavez's 4-for-4 game, enabled the Bruins to complete the day
and series sweep with a game called after five innings by the
eight-run 'mercy' rule.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Jenny Milton walked,
advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a Chavez double.
After a walk to Chriss, Beeson singled in Chavez. The Loggers
tied it in the 2nd on an RBI double by Megan Janes and a
run-scoring infield hit by Jenica Holt.
Another five-run inning in the 3rd enabled the Bruins to blow
the game open. Beeson singled to start the frame, was sacrificed to
second, and scored the tie-breaking run on a single by Nicole
Renteria. Towery doubled and Genetta Bennett's
sacrifice fly to left scored Renteria. Milton doubled in
Towery, and Milton scored when Trindle singled to center and the
throw back to the infield got away for an error. Chavez doubled in
Trindle to cap the rally.
The Bruins added four in the 5th to invoke the run rule.
Chavez had an RBI single, Chriss drove in a run with a ground ball
that was booted, Beeson singled in a run, and Davidson hit a
sacrifice fly for the last run.
Taylor Whitmore (1-2) went the first four innings for the win,
spacing five hits and walking four, before DenDekker finished up
with a 1-2-3 5th inning. Of the Loggers' five hits,
Janes was 2-for-2. Grause (0-4) started and again took the
loss for UPS. Chavez scored twice and drove in three, while
Beeson had three hits and drove in two. Milton and Trindle
had two hits and scored two runs each.
NEXT: George Fox (10-8, NWC 5-3), now in fourth
place in the conference after five straight wins, visits Lewis
& Clark College Saturday and Sunday for 12:00 noon
