Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Outside hitters Erin
Campbell and Karlee Jo Sampson combined for 25
kills and a .314 hitting percentage, leading the visiting George
Fox University Bruins past the Linfield College Wildcats 3-0
(25-19, 25-19, 25-18) in Northwest Conference women's
volleyball action Friday night here at Ted Wilson Gym.
George Fox improved to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the conference
with the win in its final road game of the season, while Linfield
slumped to 6-14 overall and 2-13 in the league in its final home
game. The win was No. 597 for Bruin head coach Steve Grant,
who can reach 600 in his 32nd season if the Bruins can win their
final three matches of the season, all at home. Linfield
coach Shane Kimura has 620 wins in his 36th year, giving the two
veteran mentors 68 years and 1,217 victories between them.
After seven ties in the early stages of the first set, the last
at 10-10, the Bruins took control with a 7-0 run that featured
three kills by Campbell. Kailana Ritte-Camara bookended a 4-0
Linfield run with a pair of kills to bring the Wildcats back within
three at 17-14, but they could get no closer. Kylee Adderson
nailed the last two points for the Bruins to seal the set.
Campbell and Adderson had six and five kills respectively in the
opening stanza.
Linfield took early control in the second set, building an 8-4
lead on two kills each by Ritte-Camara and Sam Hammons. The
Bruins responded with an 8-1 run to go up 12-9 on the strength of
three winners by Sampson and two blocks by Adderson, Sampson
assisting on one. The George Fox lead eventually reached
seven on a kill by Sampson, her ninth of the set, that made it
24-17, and secured a 2-0 lead in the match with a final spike by
Emily Carlson.
In the third set, four George Fox attack errors and two services
errors helped the Wildcats take a 10-7 lead, but the Bruins rallied
with four straight points on kills by Erin Sprowls and Campbell and
a pair of service aces by Sampson. Linfield regained the edge
on a winner by Victoria Thompson and an ace by Audrey Frazier, but
the Bruins exploded for six unanswered points, three of them spikes
by Campbell, to move in front 17-12. The 'Cats got no
closer than four the rest of the way before the Bruins ended the
match on a winner by Sprowls.
Campbell finished with 13 kills and a .267 percentage while
Sanmpson had 12 winners and .381 mark. Sprowls added seven
kills, Adderson six, and with Adderson hitting .556, the Bruins
posted a .226 hitting mark (42-18-106). Payton Shrum directed
the offense with 36 kills, while on defense, Chelsea Wilson made 28
digs. Adderson was in on four of the Bruins' five
blocks, with one solo.
Ritte-Camara was the only player in double figures in kills with
10 for the Wildcats, who hit .133 (33-18-113) as a unit.
Shayli Coppock was next with eight kills. Casie Gaza had 14
assists and Frazier 12, with Quinn Takashima making 11 digs.
Ritte-Camara and Thompson had three blocks assists each.
