Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – A two-out grand slam home
run by Felicia Chavez in the bottom of the 6th
inning capped a six-run rally that powered the George Fox
University Bruins past the visiting Lewis & Clark College
Pioneers 6-2 in the first makeup game of a four-game Northwest
Conference softball series Wednesday afternoon here at Morse
Field.
The Bruins (10-2, NWC 4-2) and Pioneers (5-7, NWC 2-5) were
originally scheduled for doubleheaders here on Mar. 8-9 but lost
all four to foul weather. Two more of the makeup games have
been set for Mar. 27, but a date for the fourth and final game is
still to be determined.
Lewis & Clark jumped on top with an unearned run in the 1st
on singles by Tiana Rosario and Hannah Dal Pra, a passed ball, and
a throwing error on an attempted play at third. Dal Pra made
it 2-0 in the 4th with a solo home run, her second of the season,
leading off the frame.
Madison Hollenbeck (4-4) made that lead stand up for the Pios
through five innings, scattering four hits until the 6th.
Kayla Anderson reached on a throwing error at second to lead off
the last of the 6th, and the Bruins made the visitors pay for the
costly mistake. Amanda Woods doubled, Courtney Howard walked
to load the bases, and Baylee Westrick singled in Anderson.
After a force out at home, Becca Olson singled in Howard with the
tying run. Another force at home left it up to Chavez, who
promptly unloaded the sacks with her first round-tripper of the
season.
Erin Hento (5-1), who went the distance for the Bruins, then set
the Pios down in order in the 7th. She allowed five hits in
the route-going effort, fanning five and walking only one.
Rosario and Dal Pra each had two hits for the Pios, while Woods and
Chavez, who also had a double, collected two hits apiece for the
Bruins.
