NEWBERG, Ore. – Alexa Nakashimada set a new George Fox University record with seven goals scored as the Bruins closed out the home portion of their first-ever women's lacrosse season with a 15-5 win over their Yamhill County rivals, the Linfield College Wildcats, late Tuesday afternoon here at the Austin Sports Complex.

In addition to breaking her own previous record of six, held jointly with Christine Doherty, Nakashimada also had an assist for eight total points, establishing another record, and had 10 shots on goal for yet another new mark.  She is the team leader in goals scored (39), assists (6), total points (45), shots (75) and shots on goal (60).

Nakashimada scored the first goal of the game two minutes in, but the Wildcats tied it a minute later on a score by Halee Helgerson.  Jessica Adrian, with an assist from Rachael Gibbs, put the Bruins ahead with a goal at the 26:30 mark, and Doherty added back-to-back goals, the second off a free position attack with 18:05 left in the half, as the Bruins built a 4-1 lead.

Shelby Duarte ended the Bruins' streak with a Linfield goal with 9:09 left, but consecutive scores by Shealtiel Hart, Nakashimada, Doherty and Miranda Edwords extended the George Fox lead to 8-2.  Duarte and Nakashimada traded goals in the final two minutes as the Bruins took a 9-3 lead into the half.

The Bruins scored the first four goals of the second half to go up 13-3 and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.  Nakashimada had the first two and the last two of the Bruins' six second-half goals.

The Bruins held a 29-14 advantage in shots, 19-14 in ground balls, and 16-6 in draw controls.  Kaylee Kolin made nine saves in goal for the Bruins, while Erika Phillipo had 10 saves for the 'Cats.  Doherty added four goals to Nakashimada's seven and Edwords scored twice, while Duarte led Linfield with four goals.

Coming off a stunning 12-11 win at the University of Puget Sound on Friday, George Fox has won two in a row and is now 5-6 on the season, while Linfield fell to 2-12.  The Bruins have one game left, that coming Sunday against Loras College in a neutral-site game at Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., at 4:00 p.m.

“A .500 record in our first season was one of our pre-season goals,” admitted George Fox head coach Natalie Harrington, “and now we've put ourselves in a position to attain that.  We also wanted to win the 'unofficial' Northwest Conference championship, but Pacific got us twice; maybe we'll get 'em next year.  This has been some of the most fun I've ever had, and the kids are just great to work with; to see so many of them, some of whom had never played the game, come together to achieve what they have has been wonderful.  We are already excited about next year.”
