Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. --- George Fox University's
women's soccer team traveled to Whittier College Friday afternoon,
as the Bruins went into extra time with the Poets.
In the first period, Morgan Hansen took to the net for the Bruins and saw 10
shots with only one of them being on goal. Kenna Meinhart recorded the only two shots for the
Bruins as both shots just sailed wide of the net.
After a 0-0 score at half, the Bruins opened up the second
period with a strong showing and several great opportunities.
Meinhart, who was the strong offensive threat in the first,
breached the Poets defense and netted the first goal of the game in
the 59th minute. The Meinhart goal marks the first goal
of the year for the Bruins.
The Poets wouldn't go down without a fight after drawing a
corner kick in the 78th minute. Whittier then made the
equalizer tying the game up after Leah Kolek snuck one by
Hansen.
After the end of regulation both teams were tied at 1-1. The
Poets managed to record 21 shots, but only five of them were on
goal. Meanwhile, the Bruins took a more accurate approach firing
off six shots with two on goal.
In both extra periods neither team could produce any real
offensive threat, as the physical play started to slow things
down.
The Bruins recorded 21 fouls on the day, while the Poets had
14.
Meinhart finished the game leading the Bruins with four shots
and one goal. Hansen recorded seven saves on the day.
George Fox will continue its California road trip with a game
against Redlands College on Sunday, September 14 at 7 p.m.
