Box Score 4 SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- George Fox
University's women's volleyball team competed in the
Trinity Fall Classic Friday and Saturday, as the Bruins took on
four teams in the two day tournament.
Day
1
The Bruins started the first day against host team No. 19
Trinity University in an exciting five set match. The Bruins fell
in the opening set, but dominated the second and third with Tiffany Burk and Kylee Adderson leading the way. In the fourth set, the
Bruins trailed the Tigers 21-13, but rallied back to cut the
deficit within two at 23-21. The Bruins scored the next point after
a Tiger' ball handling error, but couldn't rally a big
enough comeback to fall, 25-22.
The Bruins traded points back and forth in the fifth set all the
way up to a tie score at 10-10. The Tigers then went on the attack
scoring five-straight points to end the match with a 15-10 victory.
The Bruins fell 10-25, 27-25, 25-22, 22-25, and 10-15 to the
Tigers.
Adderson and Burk combined for 22 kills and seven blocks in the
match. Erin Sprowls also had a double-digit kill day
with 10.
In game two, the Bruins took on the Pirates of Southwestern
University in the final match of day one. The Pirates came off a
dominating performance earlier in the day after taking down
conference foe Puget Sound, 3-0.
Erin Campbell led the attack for the Bruins hitting a
blistering .308 with 10 kills on 26 attempts. George Fox had five
different players record at least one service ace, as Kelsea Meyers led the Bruins with two.
The Bruins fell to the Pirates 18-25, 22-25, 19-25.
Day
2
GFU took on Texas Lutheran in the first match and were led by
Adderson, who hit .353 with nine kills on 17 attempts. The Bulldogs
rallied behind Kristin Fording, who hit .467 with 19 kills on 30
attempts. The Bruins fell behind early in the first set at 4-10,
but rallied back to 20-22 after a couple kills by Adderson. The
Bulldogs finished the match with three-straight points to take the
first set. The Bruins fell to the Bulldogs 22-25, 7-25, and
21-25.
GFU's day didn't get any easier taking on Mary
Hardin-Baylor in the second match. The Crusaders entered the
tournament with an 8-3 overall record.
It was a close match till the end, but the Bruins were unable to
get past the hump falling to the Crusaders 23-25, 13-25, 20-25.
The Bruins will look to bounce back on the 19th when
they start conference play at Pacific University at 7 p.m.
