Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox softball team fell to Linfield College on Saturday in the winner's bracket by a score of 5-4.

After a quiet first inning from both teams, the Bruins opened up the scoring in the top of the second. The Bruins loaded the bases, and Wildcat' pitcher Shelby Saylors hit Ashley Bunce, which walked in the first run of the game.
After a 1-0 lead, the Wildcats answered back in the bottom half of the inning. The 'Cats were able to produce four runs, with two of them coming off a two-run home run from Paige Smotherman.
The Bruins did well to respond in the top of the third with another run, but the 'Cats fired back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth, 5-2.
All hope wasn't loss, though, as George Fox stepped up huge in the seventh. Kayla Anderson started the inning off with a single to left field and Annie Veatch echoed her teammate with a single of her own. Two errors made in the outfield by the 'Cats resulted in Anderson scoring from first to bring the Bruins within two, 5-3. Kat Hylton came to the plate with two outs and hit a booming double to left center that scored Veatch, 5-4. With the tying run on second now, the 'Cats decided to bring in Maddy Dunn, who got the final out of the game with a grounder.
Top Performers:
Abbie Bergerson pitched 4.1 innings after coming in to relieve Madison Sorensen in the second. Both pitchers combined for four strikeouts on the day. Courtney Howard and Hylton both recorded two hits and one RBI apiece.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will play the winner of the Claremont Mudd-Scripps/Whitworth match-up at 4:00 p.m. for a chance to advance to the championship game on Sunday.
