SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox softball team traveled to Washington for the first game of the Northwest Conference Tournament Friday, losing to the top-seeded Whitworth Pirates in a nail-biter, 2-0.
Recap:
The two teams played three hotly contested innings, remaining scoreless until the Pirates managed to earn two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bruins had the chance to steal the game in the top of the sixth. A single by Rebecca Pridmore began the action and another single by Kimi Ito set runners on first and second. Annie Veatch walked to stack the bases, but the Bruins were unable to capitalize with back-to-back fly outs.
The Bruins also had the tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh after Aaliyah Kautz singled down the left field line, but were unable to send her home.
Despite the Bruins recording one more hit than the Pirates, they dropped the first game, 2-0,.
Top Performers:
Madison Sorensen was an ace on the mound in this one, striking out five Pirates. She pitched her 14th complete game, giving up just four hits. Ito had a good day at the plate, going two for three.
What It Means:
The Bruins have a chance to bounce back Saturday needing to win the rest of their games.
