Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox softball team had a heart-breaker Saturday night, as the Bruins fell in extra innings of the Northwest Conference Tournament elimination game to Pacific Lutheran, 3-2.
Recap:
The Bruins were the first to open up the scoring after loading the bases in the top of the second. Allison Meyer came to the plate with two outs, and was able to hit a single to right field to score Alyssa Gonzalez. The Bruins ended up leaving three runners on base after a groundout ended the inning.
Pacific Lutheran evened up the score in the bottom of the fifth after a single up the middle started the inning. Gracen Malich hit a single to left center for the Lutes, which brought home the lone runner for a 1-1 score.
The Bruins were quick to respond, as they tacked on another run in the top of the sixth. Gonzalez got the inning going with a single, and Kimi Ito brought home Tristan Cozo, who pinch ran for Gonzalez.
The Lutes were able to cut the deficit in the bottom half of the sixth with a double through the left side.
Both teams were unable to get on the board in the seventh, which forced the game into extra softball.
A pair of singles kicked off the bottom of the eighth for the Lutes, who had runners on first and third with no outs. The next at bat scored the go-ahead run to end the game at 3-2.
Top Performers:
Abbie Bergerson pitched a complete game for the Bruins, allowing eight hits with three strikeouts. Meyer went 2-4 at the plate with one RBI. Ito brought her RBI total to two on the day and went 1-4.
What It Means:
The Bruins season comes to an end with a final record of 20-17. This marks the fourth straight winning season for the Bruins, and their fourth straight 20-plus win season.
